Having had a relaxing (but somewhat rainy!) summer break we have now all come back to Illumina feeling revived and ready for our busiest season of the year. The shop has had a bit of a revamp with our feature wall being re-papered in Susie Hoodless wallpaper and a fresh new leather sofa ready for customers to use when they are looking at our numerous catalogues or discussing lighting design schemes.
During the summer various lighting consultancy work was completed including a newbuild property in Feock and the Well Dental practice where we installed energy efficient wall lights and ceiling lights which, apparently have been very popular. We are pleased with them as well but are not sure that the photos here totally do them justice.
More lighting design work under way and lots of new stock arriving, including some lovely colourful mini Tolomeo desk lamps by Artemide - a rainbow of colour and fun at the same time as being very ergonomic. We're also bringing in some linen cushions in colours to match!
Christmas stock on it's way now and some already out on display.
CONTEMPORARY LIGHTING AND LIVING AT ILLUMINA
Here at Illumina we celebrated our third birthday by starting our first blog - it's probably about time we caught up with the 21st century! Things have certainly progressed since we threw our opening party on the 12th May 2005, hurriedly throwing countless boxes up into the stock room and starting to take sales without even our new cash register in operation.
Although we were rather green then as far as retail is concerned we had a dream that we continue to strive for, and that is to inspire our customers with lighting and the effects that can be achieved. We now supply a good range of contemporary lighting from well known manufacturers such as Deltalight, Flos, Axolight and Artemide as well as lesser known suppliers of lighting from countries such as Sweden, Denmark and France not forgetting our favourites from good old England which are Original BTC. We display a healthy range of contemporary wall lights and ceiling lights as well as a good selection of lamps from floor lamps and table lamps to efficient desk lamps and ambient lighting.
Right from Day one we have supplied Allinwood furniture from Sweden which we believe to be beautifully made without being too frilly as well as being realistically priced, if good quality wooden furniture can be in this day and age. We also supply Vincent Sheppard Lloyd Loom furniture as again it meets our criteria of good quality - in fact we get customers coming into the shop who talk about pieces of Lloyd Loom furniture being passed down to them by their grandparents and still going strong.
Having started with a relatively small nucleus of designer fabrics and wallpapers we have increased our range over the years so we now hold books from our favourites suppliers such as Rapture and Wright, Neisha Crosland, Clarissa Hulse, Borderline, Allegra Hicks as well as Osborne and Little, Jim Thompson and Busby and Busby. The range of Paint and Paper Library paints also compliments the wallpaper books.
Finally, we are always on the look out for stylish and unusual accessories such as cushions, lanterns, tealight holders, glasses, scented candles and scent diffusers and there is a definite contemporary, slightly Scandinavian influence to the goods we have in stock.
We are also lighting consultants in the southwest and have carried out design on several newbuild properties and re-vamps of classical buildings thoughout Cornwall from Penzance to Rock and St Mawes and even up to Taunton.
We have only had our website with online shopping facility for little over a year now and are constantly planning to add to it but unfortunately don't often find time to keep it up to date with everything we have in our store. So if you're in Truro it may well be worth dropping in to see what latest stock we have unwrapped and just put out on display!
